I pump exclusively and had an inadequate milk supply. I took fenugreek capsules for a month, which made the baby super gassy and very uncomfortable, with zero increase in supply. My supply improved when I switched to Pumpin Pals flanges, and things ambled along.

In the meantime, I started to get sugar cravings and picked up Aussie Bites from Costco. They have sugar and coconut- the first I craved, the second I have always loved. They were delicious, and I was snacking on at least half a dozen cookies daily!

There were days when my supply would just suddenly dip, and after frequent occurrences of these random dips in supply, I looked back on what I was doing wrong, and I found that the only thing different from my daily routine was I had run out of Aussie Bites!

Who would have thought?

I looked at the ingredients in Aussie Bites, did some digging online, and found that oatmeal and flax seeds are lactogenic foods that help increase milk production.
Both are abundant in Aussie Bites, with oatmeal being its main ingredient.
I cannot equate this ‘discovery’ with that of penicillin by Alexander Fleming, but serendipity is at work here too!

Its other ingredients are apricots, raisins, sunflower seeds, quinoa, honey, chia seeds, vanilla, rice flour, canola oil, unsalted butter, sea salt, and baking soda.

Costco does not advertise it as lactation cookies.

On searching online, I found users in online forums suggesting to use it as lactation cookies-
Reddit and GBCN.

Ready-made lactation cookies are costly. Just look up on Amazon or Walmart.
Aussie Bites is only 12$ for 1LB 14OZ (or 850gms), and each box has 32 cookies!

Other plus points?

It is USDA organic certified, fiber-rich, packed with Omega 3, has zero trans fat, and is gluten-free(but says on the label, ‘produced in a factory that may contain wheat’)

A major downside?
The amount of sugar in it!

Each cookie has 7 grams of sugar, of which 4 grams is added sugar. I assume that the 3 grams of sugar is from the raisins and apricots.
The American Heart Association recommends that “Men should consume no more than 9 teaspoons (36 grams or 150 calories) of added sugar per day. For women, the number is lower: 6 teaspoons (25 grams or 100 calories) per day.”
This high amount of sugar is a significant drawback with Aussie Bites! I avoid any other sugary stuff when I have these cookies.

If you do not have Costco nearby or a membership, the cookies are also available on Amazon- Aussie Bites– but cost way more than what you would pay at Costco.
But then again, it costs much less than the cookies that sell for lactation.

Or you can make them at home too- Homemade Aussie Bites– and put less sugar in it.

Try them. Even if you are skeptical of their lactogenic benefits, the taste will win you over, and the fiber in it will help you poop like a champ!
